He had a vast range of interests and a deep knowledge in a variety of subjects.  Mike brought passion to each endeavor and mastered everything he set out to do. Jazz, fly fishing, horses, astronomy, shellfish, brewing  award-winning beer, cooking and baseball to name a few.  Whether he was explaining the upside of a new fly pattern, identifying a cluster of stars in the sky, or demonstrating proper technique when opening an oyster, he was an undeniable expert.  Mike insisted on knowing how things worked and meticulously studied each subject in order to master the art.  His vast knowledge was built through a genuine curiosity and an ability to listen.  Mike asked thoughtful questions and his desire to know was sincere.  He had a desire and willingness to share his knowledge with those who demonstrated interest.  Mike was a craftsman and detail was of the utmost importance.  His patience and attention to detail produced work that only Mike could create. The recipient of this scholarship must greatly enjoy life and possess the ability to appreciate the small things.  Students must have a passion for detail and a strong ambition to wholeheartedly master each endeavor.  The recipient must possess the desire to teach and pass along the expertise they have garnered though life.  Finally, these attributes must be combined with a sense of humor and energy that can lift an entire room.
